Join the Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department for an 8-week Ballroom & Social Dance class on Monday evenings. Learn classic partner dances like Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing, Salsa, Bachata, Tango, and more. No fancy footwork required!
No dance experience? No problem. Two left feet? We’ve seen worse. Partners are welcome but not required. Classes focus on easy-to-learn steps, rhythm, coordination, and connection — all in a relaxed, social setting where fun comes first.
Participants register for one class time (times below). Stick around after class for an Open Dance session until 8:45 PM to try out your new moves.

Introduction to Ballroom Dancing
Learn the joy of dancing with a partner whether you are preparing for your wedding dance or just want to have fun. Studies show that social dancing makes you smart. No other activity integrates so many brain functions at once — kinesthetic, rational, musical, and emotional. Social Dancing encompasses music, motion, rhythm, and mathematics and is an excellent exercise in a pleasurable atmosphere offering social interaction, romance, memory training and fun. Learn the waltz, foxtrot, merengue, chacha or any other dance you request. Singles and couples welcome!
Go Latin! Salsa, Merengue, etc.
Latin dances have a special flare. Come and learn the Merengue, Salsa, Bachata and move your feet and your hips with a partner! The Dominican Republic provided us with the Bachata and Merengue, both easy-to-learn, fun dances. The Salsa originated in Cuba, deriving from the famous Mambo. Singles and couples welcome!
